Dialon - What You Should Know

1.) Why was Dialon withdrawn?
 
MOHAP issued a circular to medical zones, hospitals and pharmacies to withdraw diabetes medicine, Dialon 500mg, due to an issue with its solubility with the reference product. Dialon is the first-line medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and contains the active ingredient Metformin Hydrochloride. The 850mg and 1000mg strengths of Dialon are still available in the UAE and are not affected by the withdrawal. 
 
2.) What is wrong with Dialon?
 
The dissolution profile of Dialon 500mg Tablets did not match with the reference product. 
 
3.) What is Dialon mainly used for?
 
Dialon is the first-line medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is used to control blood glucose in patients with Type 2 diabetes Mellitus.
 
4.) Can I still use Dialon 850mg and 1000mg?
 
Yes. Both products comply with the Health Authorities requirements.
 
5.) Why/how did the MOH allow this product to be launched in the first place?
 
We follow stringent standards designed to ensure the safety and quality of each of our products. Dialon had completely passed and complied with all the regulatory requirements of the regulatory bodies, when it was first registered and when registration certificate has been renewed by relevant Health Authorities
 
6.) Has Dialon 500 mg tablets been withdrawn in other markets as well?
 
Yes. Dialon 500mg has been proactively withdrawn from other markets.
 
7.) What happens if I already take this medicine? Can I continue to use it?
 
We have not received any reports of adverse drug reactions or other reports during the period when the medicine was available in the markets. Yet, since it is recalled from the markets now, you may need to use another product. Please consult your Healthcare Professional
